Tech Ideas For Good is endowing sustainable crowdfunding with an additional layer of transparency. Before delving further into this - it’s important to highlight the public’s attitude on the subject. This recent Accenture survey found that more than half of consumers are willing to pay more for sustainable products. Moreover, this recent IBM Institute for Business Values study included a poll which found that 8 in 10 consumers indicate that sustainability is important to them. More importantly though, the same poll found that 6 in 10 consumers are willing to change their shopping habits to reduce their environmental impact. These attitudes coupled with the relative nascency of the sustainability movement in the minds of the consumer make evident a certain naiveté that can potentially be exploited by greenwashing practices. As previously mentioned here - greenwashing poses a real and apparent threat to crowdfunding and the sustainability movement at large. To quell this threat - Tech Ideas For Good is announcing our sustainability survey program, which we’re dubbing: The Ask Campaigns Anything Series.
The purpose of the ACA is to advance the spirit of transparency further into the ethos of crowdfunding by providing sustainability and eco-minded backers with more information to make an informed decision when backing campaigns by answering questions around their business model, manufacturing, and attempt to clarify any claims made on their campaign page that need it.
Furthermore, it’s important to note that the survey is optional for entrepreneurs; as well as that each ACA will look different due to each entrepreneur’s willingness to participate. Their answers will not be altered and will be presented as is and packaged for posting here on Tech Ideas for Good. One should also note that the ACA is not intended to serve as a certification or endorsement of these campaigns. Nor will the accuracy be verified by our staff. Ultimately, the ACA series is an exercise of good faith.
